Dear SUPER Woman,

Life is like strands of Christmas lights thrown in a box, a tangled mess that needs to be sorted. However, if you hold one end and I hold one end, we can sort them out much quicker. THAT is counseling!

I believe that EVERYONE gets to a place in life where friends and family are too close to help.

Counseling is the place for you to explore your thoughts and feelings in a confidential, nonjudgmental, safe place. Together, you and I will build a healthy therapeutic relationship, where I will help you discover more about yourself and your patterns of behavior.

If your past is haunting your present, and you are ready to RETIRE YOUR CAPE, now is a good time to schedule an appointment.

Together, we will develop a plan to  help you create the life you desire and DESERVE.

DR. CHERIE EDWARDS
DMFT, MA, LPC-S, NCC

I believe therapy should be a place where you can show up as you are—without judgment, shame, or pressure to have everything figured out. I have spent more than 20 years helping individuals, couples, and families navigate trauma, relationship challenges, anxiety, life transitions, and the experiences that can leave us feeling stuck.

My approach is warm, honest, and collaborative. I will support you, but I will also ask the hard questions, help you recognize patterns, and gently challenge you when growth requires something different. I specialize in trauma and boundary work and am trained in evidence-based approaches, including EMDR , sand tray, DBT, and family systems therapy. My goal isn’t to tell you how to live your life; it’s to help you better understand yourself, heal what needs healing, and develop the tools to create meaningful, lasting change.

Why I Became a Therapist

My journey into counseling actually began with my own experience in therapy. I experienced firsthand what can happen when you have a safe place to be honest, gain perspective, and work through the things you’re carrying.

During that time, a friend told me that if she ever needed a therapist, she would call me. I immediately responded, “I can’t be a therapist.” When I later told my therapist about the conversation, she simply asked, “Why can’t you?”

I was in the middle of figuring out what I wanted to do with my life, and that question stayed with me. I began researching the counseling profession, and what started as curiosity ultimately became my calling.

What I Enjoy Most About Helping Clients

I love the moment when something clicks.

It might be when a client finally recognizes a pattern they’ve repeated for years, realizes that something they’ve carried as shame was never theirs to carry, or finds the courage to set a boundary, use their voice, or make a different choice because they finally believe they’re allowed to.

I enjoy helping people connect the dots, understand themselves differently, and recognize that change really is possible. Those moments—when someone begins to see themselves, their relationships, or their future differently—are still some of my favorite parts of this work.

My Counseling Style

I’m engaged and straightforward, and I don’t believe therapy should feel like you’re talking to someone who only nods and asks, “How does that make you feel?” I listen closely, ask questions that encourage you to think differently, and help you recognize connections and patterns you may not have noticed before.

I’ll support you, but I’ll also challenge you when needed. I use humor when appropriate, offer practical feedback, and create space for difficult conversations. My goal is to help you better understand yourself, make intentional choices, and leave therapy with insight and tools you can actually use in your everyday life.

I Help With

I commonly work with adults experiencing trauma and PTSD, anxiety, depression, relationship and family concerns, grief and loss, codependency, life transitions, stress and burnout, boundary difficulties, and challenges related to self-worth and identity. I also work with individuals navigating the impact of childhood and family-of-origin experiences, as well as patterns that continue to affect their relationships and emotional well-being.

I have particular expertise in trauma recovery and relationship dynamics and often help clients understand how past experiences may be influencing the way they think, feel, connect, and respond today.

I Primarily Work With

  • Adolescents
  • Adults
  • Families
  • Seniors

My Therapeutic Approaches

My approach is grounded in Strategic Family Therapy and systems thinking, which means I look beyond individual symptoms to understand the patterns, relationships, and experiences that may be contributing to what a client is facing. I also use EMDR, trauma-informed therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), solution-focused techniques, and other evidence-based interventions based on each client’s individual needs and goals. I don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all approach to therapy; treatment should fit the person, not the other way around

Therapy with me isn’t just a place to vent. We’ll talk about what’s happening, but we’ll also look at the patterns underneath it, what you can control, and what you may need to do differently. I’ll bring my expertise, perspective, and tools to the process, but the choices and changes are yours to make.
